Is Dentyne addictive-

OK, so I am not actually suggesting that Big Gum is adding things to their product to make it addictive, but I did notice something interesting today. First off, quit smoking now, for those of you who are not familiar with my history, I was using Nicorette gum from November 2003 though 11/20/09,stop smoking now, while trying to quit using the weaning method. For the most part, I used it to get through the work day, and "roughed" it on the weekends. Anyway, I decided to go cold turkey on 11/23, so that evening I stopped by the local Cash & Carry, and bought an institutional size package of Dentyne to chew at work. And that is exactly what I have been doing every work day since. Now, I have not been having a lot of cravings/triggers since the first few days, but I have had some discomfort in the mornings, which I suspect is related to my huge coffee cup. Over the past couple weeks, the discomfort has declined steadily when I am home on the weekends, but on work days, I have been distracting myself with Dentyne. I figured I already have ENOUGH stress to deal with at work without adding one more.Anyway, this morning when I started feeling uncomfortable, I decided to pass on the Dentyne and see what would happen. Well, the short answer is that I have been having cravings all morning! Now, I don't intend to do anything stupid (like smoking), but I do find it somewhat disconcerting that I have become dependent on a sugar-free placebo, as it were! I'm not sure whether I should stop with the Dentyne or not. Part of me thinks I will be more vulnerable as long as I rely on a crutch to get through the urges. So, bottom line, has anyone else experience anything like this, and regardless, what are everyone's thoughts?
