Is NOT Coughing Normal-
Howdy...So, I've only been smoke free for 3 days...I have been doing lots of reading on here and various sites about what to expect when you quit. One thing everyone seems to mention is how they start to cough badly after a couple of days. I'm not, and it worries me, as everyone also says coughing is good as your lungs are cleaning themselves out! So...is this a bad sign? I have some mild wheezing still, and that feeling your chest is a bit constricted. I've been doing the breathing exercises as recommended in here, which feels good.I have noticed though that my smell is improving even after such a short time. I never knew how disgusting my dog's food smelled until today! Now I have to move his bowl to a new location. Also he is not smelling so good. People must have thought I was crazy when I told them my dog never stank! Also good is that my heart rate is way down. Just three days ago, walking up the stairs I could feel my heart pounding and fluttering. Not now. That seemed to happen after just one day. It's a GREAT feeling!Tomorrow I have to take a standardized professional exam. Three challenges...morning coffee,Herbal cigarettes, driving 30 miles in the car, and pre/post exam...all times when I would normally reach for a ciggy. However, as I've been here studying (or procrastinating studying), it's been fairly easy to tell myself that the urge to smoke is stupid, quit smoking, so stop thinking about it (inhale, exhale, ahhh!). This is the first time I have gone into a quit with this mindset. Before it was all about deprivation, now it is all about how I have the control. And it's true, I do!I'm rambling...but if anyone has any thoughts about the coughing, I would appreciate it.Cheers!Mel
